This week I wrote two poems named Gardener, Help Me Grow. Both have been written in the form of a rondeau where the rhyming scheme is R-aabba aabR aabbaR; The R is a repeated phrase, or a rentrement as the French call it, which states the theme of the poem; in this case it is “Gardener, Help Me [Grow]”.
Both are trochaic, where the stress moves from heavy to light (e.g. gar-dener). The first poem has 9 beats per line and the second has 7 beats per line. I wanted to share both poems because they’re similar but also different. They have alternative shades of meaning and one sounds more meditative than the other due to its longer word length. God bless, Nahum.
